🔒 Wake is built privacy-first. All your alarm data stays on your device and iCloud account. We collect zero personal data and operate no backend servers.
Overview
Wake ("the App") is an iOS alarm application designed for heavy sleepers. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information — in short: we don't collect any.
Data We Collect
None. Wake stores all data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. The following information exists only on your device and your personal iCloud account:
- Alarm schedules, labels, and settings
- Wake-up mission configurations (math, shake, walk, barcode, photo, etc.)
- Mission completion logs and history
- Registered barcodes for barcode missions
- Reference photos for photo-match missions
- In-app purchase status (Pro)
iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your alarms and settings sync across your Apple devices via CloudKit. This sync occurs entirely within your personal Apple ID and iCloud account. We have no access to this data whatsoever.
Camera Usage
Wake requests camera access to enable two features:
- Barcode Mission: Scan a barcode (e.g., your toothpaste, cereal box) to register it as a wake-up trigger. The scanned barcode value is stored locally on your device.
- Photo Match Mission: Capture a reference photo of a real-world object (e.g., a book on your desk). Each morning, you must photograph the same object to dismiss the alarm. Photos are processed on-device using Apple's Vision framework and never leave your device.
Camera access is only active when you are in one of these mission setup or completion flows. No photos or video are transmitted anywhere.
Motion & Fitness Usage
Wake requests motion and fitness access to power physical wake-up missions:
- Shake Mission: Uses the accelerometer to count shake repetitions.
- Walk Mission: Uses the pedometer to count steps taken.
- Squat Mission: Uses motion data to detect squat repetitions.
All motion data is processed in real-time and discarded immediately after the mission completes. Nothing is stored or transmitted.
Notifications
Wake uses Apple's notification system to fire alarms reliably, including Time Sensitive notifications that can break through Focus modes. Notification delivery is handled entirely by Apple's infrastructure. No notification content is sent to any third-party server.
In-App Purchases
Wake uses Apple's StoreKit framework for all purchases. Purchase transactions are processed entirely by Apple. We do not receive your payment details, Apple ID, or any identifying information when you make a purchase. Purchase receipts are verified locally on your device.
Third-Party Services
Wake uses no third-party SDKs, analytics tools, advertising networks, or crash reporting services. The app contains no tracking code of any kind.
Children's Privacy
Wake does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. The app contains no mechanisms to collect personal data from any user, regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever update this Privacy Policy, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Given our zero-data-collection approach, substantive changes are unlikely.
