Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2025
Your relationship is private. Your data should be too. Pulse is built with privacy at its core. We don't operate servers, we don't collect your data, and we don't have access to your mood updates, notes, or personal information. Everything stays between you and your partner.
The Short Version
🚫 What We Don't Do
- We don't collect any personal or relationship data
- We don't track your usage, moods, or behaviors
- We don't have user accounts or require email registration
- We don't store your data on any servers we operate
- We don't share data with third parties or advertisers
- We don't use any third-party analytics or tracking SDKs
- We don't show ads
✅ What We Do
- All your data stays on your device and in your private iCloud
- Partner sharing happens directly through Apple's CloudKit (peer-to-peer)
- Use only Apple's native frameworks and technologies
- Respect the intimacy and privacy of your relationship
Detailed Privacy Information
1. Data Storage
All your mood data, notes, and personal information is stored locally on your device using SwiftData, Apple's modern data framework. We do not operate any servers, databases, or cloud infrastructure. Your data never passes through our systems.
2. Partner Sharing (CloudKit)
When you pair with your partner:
- Sharing uses Apple's CloudKit with CKShare - a secure, private sharing mechanism
- Data is shared directly between your iCloud accounts - we have no access
- All data is encrypted end-to-end by Apple
- Only you and your invited partner can see shared data
- Breaking the pair immediately revokes access for both parties
- Apple's privacy policy governs CloudKit: apple.com/privacy
3. Mood & Status Data
Your mood updates, notes, and status information:
- Stored locally on your device
- Shared only with your paired partner (if connected)
- We cannot see what moods you log or what notes you write
- Handwritten notes (drawn messages) are stored as images in your iCloud
- Mood history is available only to you (and shared with premium features)
4. Cycle Tracking (Optional)
If you enable cycle tracking:
- Cycle data is stored only on your device and private iCloud
- Sharing with partner is opt-in and disabled by default
- Partner sees only "translated insights" (e.g., "Sensitive Phase"), not raw medical data
- You can disable cycle sharing at any time without breaking the pair
- We have zero access to any health or cycle information
5. Notifications
If you enable notifications:
- Partner update notifications use Apple's Push Notification service via CloudKit
- We don't operate push notification servers
- Notification content is processed locally on your device
- You control all notification settings through iOS Settings
6. Widgets
If you use Pulse widgets:
- Widget data is shared between the app and widget using App Groups (local to your device)
- No widget data is transmitted to external servers
- Widgets display cached partner data from your local device
7. Premium Features
If you purchase Pulse Pro:
- Purchases are handled entirely through Apple's App Store
- We don't store any payment information
- Purchase status is stored locally and in your iCloud Keychain
- Premium features (History, Insights) work with your local data only
- One subscription can cover both partners through Family Sharing
8. Data Export
You own your data and can export it at any time:
- Export your mood history and settings from Settings
- Data is exported in standard formats for your use
- Exported data stays on your device unless you choose to share it
9. Data Deletion
You have complete control over your data:
- Delete your profile and all mood history from Settings
- Unpairing removes access to shared data
- Uninstalling the app removes all local data
- iCloud data can be managed in iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage
10. Third-Party Services
Pulse uses NO third-party services, analytics, or tracking frameworks. We exclusively use Apple's native frameworks:
- SwiftUI for the user interface
- SwiftData for local data storage
- CloudKit for optional partner sync and sharing
- StoreKit 2 for premium purchases
- UserNotifications for notifications
- WidgetKit for home screen widgets
- PencilKit for handwritten notes
11. Children's Privacy
Pulse is designed for adults in relationships. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 17. Since we don't collect any data, children's privacy is inherently protected if they use the app.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we ever update this privacy policy, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top
- Notify users through an app update description
- Never compromise on our privacy-first approach
13. Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally on your device and in your private iCloud, you have complete rights over it:
- Access: View all your data directly in the app
- Modification: Edit or delete any data at any time
- Portability: Export your data in standard formats
- Deletion: Remove all data instantly
- Control: Manage partner sharing permissions
